Tara started at the Women's Centre in 2011 as a practicum student. She held various positions, including Youth Outreach Worker and Safety Coordinator, before becoming Executive Director in 2015. She is passionate about her work, her son and her dogs, and spending time in nature.
Team Growth Facilitator
Christie joined the Women’s Centre team in 2010. She is married and has a blended family of 5 children and 2 grandchildren. Embracing life as a spiritual journey is her purpose and sharing that journey with other women has become her passion.
Gladys is originally from Brokenhead Ojibwe Nation but has lived in Winnipeg for 30 years and now considers it her home. She is a mother of four awesome people - three sons and one daughter. She was mentored by an Elder for several years. She is a sundancer, pipe carrier, traditional singer/drummer, and a traditional clothing seamstress, as well as a sister, auntie, friend and community member.
Candace joined the NPDWC team in 2020. She was born in Thompson and raised in Winnipeg. She has resided in North Point Douglas for over 13 years and has volunteered with community organizations in the area, including Women’s Warrior Circle. She is a committed and proud mother to a teenage son and 2 fur babies. Her passion in life is helping others whenever possible. She loves music, reading, spending time outdoors, and being with her family.
Toni started at the Women’s Centre in 2020. She has lived in Point Douglas most of her life and has been raised in her culture. She started sundancing at the age of 15 and has maintained that life since. She is the parent of one child, her 14-year-old niece, and she has a cat named Baby Cat. Toni enjoys painting, beading, other First Nations crafts such as moccasins and dream catchers. She also enjoys sharing her knowledge about First Nations ceremonies, traditional medicine picking, and crafts with youth.
Dianne - "Dancing Fox" - joined the NPDWC team in 2020. She grew up on the land near Lockport MB. She is a mother, grandmother and helper. She has been extremely fortunate for the Elders, teachers and mentors in her life who have helped guide her along her own traditional and spiritual journey. Dianne has worked in Social Services for 12 years and she is passionate and dedicated in assisting others on their own healing journey in any way she can.
Parenting Program Coordinator
Jess has been with the Women's Centre since 2009. She started as a student and as part of our Drop-In team. She then moved to Drop-In Coordinator before becoming the Parenting Program Coordinator. She is a dedicated mother to one son and brings love and compassion to her work in our Parenting Program.
Khalida started at NPDWC in 2019, first as Austin Street Festival Coordinator and then as a Drop-in Team Member. She became Office Administrator in 2020. Originally from Lundar, MB, Khalida now lives in Winnipeg with her boyfriend and one rambunctious dog. She is a student at the University of Winnipeg and will graduate with a dual Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Urban & Inner City Studies in 2021.
Charlotte has been with NPDWC's drop-in team since 2020, but has been a part of Women's Warrior Circle since 2015. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work in 2016 from the University of Manitoba Inner City Social Work program. Born and raised in Winnipeg's inner city, Charlotte has a passion and love for helping others. She is a devoted mother of 2 sons and 1 daughter, and looks forward to building relationships within the community.
